what people say

“I truly feel blessed to have been able to be part of this study. This study challenged me to reflect on my own biases and forced me to confront uncomfortable truths about how race has impacted me, Christ's church, and the world. Through discussions with the study group, I developed a deeper understanding of God's calling for justice and unity. This study helped me make the connection that true reconciliation is not just a social, moral, or political issue - but a spiritual one. And one we are commanded to follow.”

“Reverend Cornell has opened my eyes to how much I didn’t know about racial trauma.”

–- Anonymous Participant

“I had the privilege of participating in a several week study at Hancock United Methodist Church, taught by The Reverend Cornell Jenkins. In an all-white class, together we established that racism is a sin and a spiritual, not social, issue. We expanded the historical stories of slavery and the Jim Crow era into meaningful discussions on white privilege, understanding the black perspective better, and how we can find ways to close the gap. We left with more questions than we started with, but we gained a certain feeling of satisfaction in having opened an awkward dialogue on the serious problem that our country faces. I would encourage others to take a look.”
